Drive Thru Flu Clinic
Please note that we will be hosting our first flu vaccine clinic on Saturday morning September 14th. The appointments will be on a pre-booked, first come first serve basis. Don’t worry we will have more dates to come.
Is it too early to do a flu vaccine?
Absolutely not!. It is recommended to get the flu vaccine as soon as it is available. Please fill out the following form (click here) and print it out. Fill out one for each child and parent and identify where they are sitting in the car. You must have a questionnaire filled out to receive a vaccine. If you develop any symptoms listed on the illness screener, between now and the appointment, you may still receive the vaccine in most instances, but we will review the symptoms to be sure.
Here is what you need to know:
• We will book appointments by request through your web portal. We WILL offer the flu shot (injection) for parents who also to be vaccinated for the flu. Once you receive a text message for the appointment, please be sure to take a picture of the parent(s) and Child(s) insurance card(s) as part of the check in process (received after the appointment is booked). Please send the names of all those who will be in the car (by web portal) with the following information:
Name(s) of those in the car and which vaccine (e.g.):
Jack Smith – Flu Shot
Madeline Smith – Flu Mist
• We will reach out to you with an appointment time. Appointment times will be booked by CAR not by child. When our time slots are all taken, we will post on our website under Newsletters
On the day of the Flu Clinic:
• Have your younger child in their car seat and down to a diaper (keep the car temperature comfortable for them). For older children, have them in a T shirt, shorts and in their car seat or booster seat if age appropriate. If an older patient drives themselves, they need to be in a T shirt and will be asked to pull over for 15” and park after receiving their flu shot.
• Do not take your child out of their CAR SEAT
• Remain in the car - please do not step outside of the car.
• Drive to the first tent (TENT 1) where we will take your questionnaire and then lower your child’s window to take a forehead temperature. We will write the temperature on your questionnaire and return it to you.
• Drive to second tent (TENT 2) where you will hand in your questionnaire and the flu vaccine(s) will be administered.
• Please help us keep you, your child and our staff safe. If you anticipate your child's resistance in getting the vaccine, please have additional assistance with you. If we ask you to hold any part of your child's body (e.g. both hands), please hold firmly and do not let go. Letting go may risk an injury from a needle stick to your child, to you or to our staff.
If your child is afraid of needles and is at least 2 years old, please consider the nasal FluMist as an alternative. If offers the same protection without a shot. There is a slightly higher chance of a runny nose for a few days. If your child is 4 years old and had their 4 year old shots within the last 4 weeks, or has an appointment within the next 4 weeks, you should not consider the FluMist, as there needs to be a 4 week spacing between these vaccines.
