Please note – that the New York State Legislature passed legislation that was signed by the Governor and went into effect for 2013 onward. Bill A397A-2011 was signed which states: EVERY INDIVIDUAL, GROUP OR BLANKET POLICY WHICH PROVIDES MEDICAL, MAJOR MEDICAL OR SIMILAR COMPREHENSIVE-TYPE COVERAGE THAT INCLUDES COVERAGE FOR A PHYSICAL OR WELL CARE VISIT ONCE IN EVERY THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE DAYS SHALL BE INTERPRETED TO MEAN THAT SUCH PHYSICAL OR WELL CARE VISIT CAN BE HAD ONCE EVERY CALENDAR YEAR, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT A PERIOD
OF THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-FIVE DAYS HAS PASSED SINCE THE PREVIOUS PHYSICAL OR WELL CARE VISIT.
Dr. Miller Comment: This applies to insurances that operate within New York State. It makes it easier for you to get annual well visits for children over 3 without having to worry about the exact date of last years well visit (as long as it is a different calender year). We will make every attempt to reflect this on the web portal as the date of your birthday. For some it may make it easier to have a well visit around the birthday as a reminder that you are due. Please bear in mind that you should verify with your insurance company to see if this law applies to your policy. There are policies that are not subject to New York State Insurance Law.
